Lovett Hines has shaped Philadelphia's jazz community for more than 50 years. The Hines Creative Arts Initiative carries that legacy forward — and honors his late wife, Carla Washington Hines, a dancer, choreographer, and arts educator whose own decades-long career included performing with the Sun Ra Arkestra and serving as the Clef Club's community engagement manager. Together, they poured their lives into Philadelphia's next generation of artists. HCAI continues that work through mentorship, education, and community-centered arts programming.
